Although our kickoff event “Pink Day” has passed, tulip bulbs are STILL AVAILABLE for purchase for the Pink Tulip Project Gardens in Old Trail Village.  In addition to providing spring beauty, 100% of the proceeds from the pink tulip project garden proceeds goes directly to cancer research. Visit Trailside Coffee in the Old Trail Village Center to make your tulip donation.

The gardens will be located in the three roundabouts along Old Trail Drive and will continue to show their colorful blooms for many years to come.  Tulip bulbs are just $2/each and will be planted on Saturday, November 7th (rain date, Sunday, 11/8) by members of the Old Trail and greater-Crozet community. The tulips have already been purchased, so all you need to do is go by Trailside to make your donation.

Supporting cancer research efforts and providing a symbol of hope to those affected by cancer in our community has never been easier - with such a gorgeous result!  Remember:  every single cent of the $2/tulip donation goes directly to cancer research!

You can also make donations online to the Old Trail Project Garden.

West End Square, featuring homes by Eagle Corporation (flanking) and Piedmont Realty (center).

New home sales continue in Old Trail Village, particularly in our new section called West End Square, located in the Ballard Field neighborhood area of the Village.  These homes, built by Piedmont Realty and Construction, and Eagle Corporation offer first-time home buyers a chance to own a new, detached home at an affordable price, without sacrificing quality or construction.  The Piedmont homes in West End Square offer granite counter tops, dove-tail cabinet construction, hardwood flooring, and, most importantly, radiant heat flooring - an energy efficient detail that will make heating bills affordable, too.

Both Eagle (Lot 1) and Piedmont (Lot 9) have sold units in the West End Square section; two more specs are slated for Eagle to start in the next month.  These West End Square homes start in the high $200s and can be completed to your individual tastes.

In addition to the exciting new home sales in West End Square, buyers are appreciating the Parkview Series offered by Craig Builders.  Starting at $369,00, the Parkview Series offers a complete housing package with elegant finishes and lasting construction for which Craig Builders is known throughout our community.  In addition to the first Parkview home already sold and occupied since this summer, Craig Builders has already begun construction on another pre-sale in the series and has begun another ’spec’ home next door. These three units are really allowing a clear view of the attractive streetscape for this series facing The Common in Ballard Field.

If you’ve not yet had a chance to visit these great new homes in Old Trail Village, come by for a tour any day of the week. Visit our Welcome Center, located in the Old Trail Village Center - it is the office next to ACAC in the interior corner with the flags outside the doors.  Come see how we’re growing!

As a part of the October activities for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), Marcia McGee, owner of Trailside Coffee, is leading the first Virginia-based “Pink Tulip Project Garden” located in Old Trail Village, Crozet, Virginia.  Originally started in Maine, the Pink Tulip Project raises funds for breast cancer research through the creation of pink tulip gardens and the purchase of pink tulip bulbs. (www.PinkTulipProject.org)

Pink Day, October 17th, will allow community members from across the Commonwealth to order tulip bulbs for the Project Gardens in Old Trail Village.  These gardens, planted in public view for everyone’s enjoyment, are a symbol of hope for those affected by cancer in our community.  The concept, created by cancer survivor Robin Whitten, has raised over $120,000 for cancer research since its inception in 2006.  Once ordered, the tulips will be delivered for Planting Day in mid-November.

Marcia McGee, whose mother passed away from cancer in 2008, found the Pink Tulip Project in a magazine.  “When I read about the project, I was excited to participate and signed-up immediately.  100% of the profit goes directly to cancer research, and that’s really important to me.  After talking about it with my employees, some of whom are seniors at Western Albemarle High School, they wanted to get involved, too.  This Saturday’s ‘Pink Day’ is our kick-off for the effort to reach our goal of $2,000 for research.” Sold for $2 per bulb, all of which is donated, the Old Trail goal will provide an acre of tulips for the four planting locations.

Said Justin Beights, Developer of Old Trail Village, “Marcia showed me what she was going to do, and I told her we wanted to get behind it.  We’ve offered our entrance planting beds and traffic roundabouts as planting locations for the tulip gardens, and our Community Association’s Social Committee is involved in supporting the event, too.  I’m really looking forward to bringing my children to participate in our community Planting Day next month.”  Once planted, the tulips will grow and blossom this spring, providing a symbol of the community’s commitment to supporting cancer research and our neighbors fighting this disease.

“Pink Day” will feature the sale of pink tulip bulbs at each business in the Old Trail Village Center (OTVC).  Additionally, Trailside Coffee will offer pink cupcakes and pink lemonade.  The bulbs will be on-sale through November 1st; after that date, the bulbs will be ordered and Planting Day will be on Saturday, November 7th (rain date on Sunday, November 8th).

For more information, contact Marcia McGee, Trailside Coffee, Marcia@TrailsideCoffee.com, 434-205-4253.
